What is Business Systems Analysis?

Systems Analysis is the interdisciplinary part of science, dealing with analysis of sets of interacting entities, the systems, often prior to their automation as computer systems, and the interactions within those systems. This field is closely related to operations research. It is also an explicit formal inquiry carried out to help decision makers identify a better course of action and make a better decision than they might have otherwise made.

Business analysis is the discipline of identifying business needs and determining solutions to business problems. Solutions often include a systems development component, but may also consist of process improvement or organisational change or strategic planning and policy development.

Business analysis as a discipline has a heavy overlap with requirements analysis sometimes also called requirements engineering, but focuses on identifying the changes to an organisation that are required for it to achieve strategic goals. These changes include changes to strategies, structures, policies, processes, and information systems.

How can DKode IT help you with your Systems Analysis?

As a qualified Systems Analyst, I can help with your next IT development project in several ways.

If you are a micro-business or new business enterprise, I will consult with you and find what your business really needs or doesn’t need. I will define the goals of the system and then design a system to meet those goals – specifying the inputs that the system will access, decide how the inputs will be processed, and format the output to meet users’ needs.

I will use techniques such as structured analysis, data modeling, information engineering, mathematical model building, sampling, and a variety of accounting principles to ensure that plans are efficient and complete.

If you are a larger organisation, but don’t have a dedicated IT manager or team, and you don’t have clue what the difference is between a MIS and FIS, then you need an independent, third-party IT overseer. I will make sure you don’t sucked into buying a system that is far more than your business requirements and that will then become redundant in 3 years time – wasting a bucket-load of your company’s valuable profits in the process. I can review all your IT proposals, manage the project and ensure bang for your buck.

Furthermore, I can prepare cost-benefit and return-on-investment analyses to help management decide whether implementing the proposed technology would be financially feasible.

When a system is approved, I can oversee the implementation of the required hardware and software components – coordinating tests and observing the initial use of the system to ensure that it performs as planned. I will prepare specifications, flow charts, and process diagrams for computer programmers to follow; then work with programmers to “debug,” or eliminate errors, from the system.

In addition to this, I can diagnose problems, recommend solutions, and determine whether program requirements have been met. After the system has been implemented, tested, and debugged, I can also train users and write instruction manuals.
